Contemporary artist Douglas Konkol has taken the last 7 or 8 months to finish the series of 5 new prints titled "Bridges". It has been almost a year since any new prints have been added to the DOUGLAS Art Prints collection. "Bridges" are not only a new series but a new subject in the collection.
After several months of no new works last summer Douglas decided on a new subject, a new challenge. The beauty and architecture of bridges. Not just the bridges but what is under the bridges, the rivers and the parks.
With many to choose from in one of Ohio's genuine treasures, The Emerald Necklace, the miles and miles of beautiful parks that ring north east Ohio he chose 5. Some for the river that passes under providing boating and recreation and some for just the beauty of the quiet park but all with the urban big city traffic passing by unnoticed overhead.
"Bridges, parks, rivers and lakes are to often the subject of art. I picked big city bridges. I wanted to show the contrast between the beauty and the pleasure that was going on right below the busses, the trucks and the commerce of city living." Konkol said. "I did the prints in my hard black and white. There's no pretty trees or rippling water just the bold lines of bridges architecture combined with man and mother nature. A very stark peacefulness."
"With all the detail of the trees and grass and flowers." Konkol went on. "I wasnt confident these new subjects would lend themselves very well to my favorite style of thick bold lines and no color. Then the massive concrete and steel of the bridges just seemed to work in contrast with the basic lines of the trees, roadway and the boats."
The new prints were held until they were all completed for release as a complete series. The 5 new prints are on and will appear first in the Gallery or can be seen by entering or selecting "bridges" on the Search Gallery page. All of the contemporary art at DOUGLAS Art Prints are 100% archival quality.
