In this newest attempt by Douglas to turn the mundane into contemporary art "the rope" turns again to the pop art style of Andy Warhol but with far more detail. This new DOUGLAS Art Print actually uses a section of rope used to moor a ship, a freighter to the dock.

"I have had this piece of rope image to work with for months. I just couldn't get it to work for me until I took what was a horizontal image and turned it vertical," Douglas, commercial photographer, artist and owner of DOUGLAS Art Prints ® said. "Then it became a question of where does this rope go? Hopefully a question for the viewer to ponder."

"This evolved from one of my usual stark black and whites into the stark red and white," Douglas continued. "It was the red background with the rope kind of reversed in white that made me decide to go ahead with the print."

This print, as are all of our prints, is 100% art gallery archival quality. They will not yellow or fade for over 100 years if displayed properly. The prints are all produced at the time of the order and each print is hand signed and numbered by Douglas.

God Bless America, a child's American Flag is the subject of this new contemporary art print by DOUGLAS Art Prints ®. In fact this is the American flag seen on the door of our Welcome Home art print. "I believe that this child's American flag stands alone as a print," Douglas, commercial photographer, artist and owner of DOUGLAS Art Prints ® said. "I think you'll agree."

"I decided to use my preferred bold black and whites for this art print because I think the more left to the imagination of the viewer the better. Especially in this print," Douglas went on. "The subject is obvious and especially with this art print I think the viewers imagination of the colors a child might use is more powerful than red, white and blue.

An antique copper tea kettle is the subject of the new contemporary art print from DOUGLAS Art Prints ® appropriately named tea kettle. I discovered this antique tea kettle in the shop where I buy my coffee. I can't tell you how many times over the years I looked at it before finally one day I looked at it as a piece of contemporary art. I may use this tea kettle again as a prop in a more elaborate still life in the future but I felt this kettle had more than enough character from its age and use to stand alone as the tea kettle as its own print.

The tea kettle is done in an oil painting style. The ironic part is the oil painting style was chosen over my preference for black and white largely because of the lack of color to this well weathered tea kettle. It is the natural lack of color that gives this subject its character in color.

This newest contemporary art print, orange boot, could be described as pop art and in fact was done in the style of Andy Warhol. Andy Warhol has been the inspiration for many to become artists including myself. Beside the famous people he had a talent for turning the mundane such as a can of soup or a cow into art. With a woman's boot as a subject I fell back on Andy for my inspiration.

When I was working with a woman's shoe I came up with the yellow shoe. Because it was so close to Warhol's style I continued to work and came up with the red shoe which I released as a DOUGLAS Art Print®. I still liked the yellow shoe even if it was too Warhol so I later released it as a DOUGLAS Art Print®. The truth be told the orange boot was done before either of the shoes. It is the natural lack of color that gives this subject its character in color.
