DOUGLAS Art Prints® is pleased to announce another new contemporary art print, crab apples. Not the usual apples for art. Not the beautiful still life. This print is in my favorite stark black and white. This is crab apples on the tree, flaws and all, it is nature.

I first did this print in full color in my print apples. Because of my proclivity for stark black and white I did this version. Of the two, crab apples is my personal favorite.

This newest original DOUGLAS contemporary art print, clock repair 2, is another in my interest in craftsmen. The ability to work on intricate fine time pieces is indeed art art. An art that one must wonder if it will be lost to computer times pieces that electronically generate the tones of the chimes. One might wonder how long before this piece of contemporary art represents the history of clocks themselves.

My new contemporary art print, temptation, originated in one of my commercial photography assignments. This one for an advertising brochure for a gourmet bakery. Once I had the print done naming it was the challenge. Temptation just seems to fit. I must admit the colors of this these fine cakes and pastries are impressive but somehow I feel the black and white makes it not so obvious and requiring one to use their imagination.

In this new contemporary art print, the wine shop, we have a fine wine shop. This print originated from my commercial photography assignment for a brochure featuring the fine wines offered by this shop. Good wine is something I truly enjoy and a subject for my contemporary art that I plan to do more of in the near future.

I have announced 12 new DOUGLAS Art Prints® contemporary art or modern art prints in the last 8 days and there are more to come. Some ask why, all of a sudden, this major release of new prints. The simple answer is time.

I am first a commercial photographer. DOUGLAS Art Prints® spawned from people buying my photographs to display in their home or office. This evolved into developing contemporary art prints that have a broader appeal and that others might like to display. DOUGLAS Art Prints® grew from a hobby to a second business. Creating new art prints is never far from the top of my mind. Now, instead of simply working with photos that I have done for commercial purposes I, while on assignment, look for subjects for new art prints. I now often take the time to just search for subjects for new art prints.

My newest print, the shed, is another contemporary art print based on rural America. Again my experience as a photojournalist having to find but one small piece of an event that expresses the overall event led me to not work with the entire shed but one small piece, the door. It was the cobwebs and the bird droppings that gave this door and this shed it's rural personality. Some might find this as filth. In rural America it is mother nature.

My new print the tree comes from my experience as a photo journalist. The art of finding one small piece of an event that will express the event. In this piece of contemporary art it is one small piece of the tree and one small piece of just the bark. I was on a commercial photography assignment for a cover photo for a real estate magazine when I saw this tree. It stood tall and strong but the bark seemed to show the experience of survival for all the years. I originally planned on doing this art print if full color with the dark shades of the bark along with the greens of the moss that cohabited there. I decided upon my first love, the strong black and white, because it required imagination to try and see the tree.

My new contemporary art print watch repair is one of the art and genuine craftsmanship of repairing fine watches. I was specially drawn to adding this as a new print because I have to wonder that in this age of electronic and digital watches how long before these craftsmen become extinct.

Again, this newest contemporary art print country home focuses on the peace and quiet of rural living. This print came from one of my commercial photography assignments for a magazine cover photo. The subject was the home and the challenge was getting the home itself in the photo. The magazine cover reflected the beautiful style of the home and maybe the most important feature, the country setting in which it was located. Although the photo itself is stunning I again chose to add the need for using one's imagination by doing this contemporary art print in my stark black and white.

My new print the tire swing stays with the low tech rural setting of peace and quiet. The only noise you hear would be the birds, frogs and crickets. Even the swing makes no noise except maybe for adding children's laughter. Much like the black and white of this print with little detail the tire swing is a place that begs the use of one's imagination.

My new print the market came from one of my commercial photography assignments. I was given total freedom to come back with images from the famous West Side Market in Cleveland, Ohio. The butcher featuring lamb and goat was a home run. This is a true sample of an ethnic open market anywhere.

My new print, europa deli, is one of the original specialty shops. Unlike our new specialty shops the Europa Deli in Cleveland's Slavic Village doesn't have the fancy lighting, the fancy interior design nor the fancy packages of product. The Europa Deli has worn fixtures from generations of customers passing through and, as is featured in my print, hand made kielbasa hanging to dry. The second you walked through the door you could see and smell that you were in a place of old European traditions.

There is something special about being in front of a fireplace burning real wood. The sounds and the smell. There is something special about stacking the wood for winter. There is something special about going outside on a snowy day to get the wood for your fire. That is what I saw in this new art print fire wood. In 2007 this has become kind of ironic. One of the most popular features in new homes now is a gas fire place that lights with the flip of a switch so we can have the pleasure of the fire in our living rooms without the work required to burn fire wood. Then we spend thousands on fitness equipment or memberships to gyms.

I like the visual of this stack of aged fire wood and I like it in the stark black and white because it is like a real wood burning fire. There is something special about expending the effort to build the fire yourself. Something you can't get by flipping a switch. Like having to go outside on a snowy day to get the wood for your fire, a black and white print, especially one with little detail, requires you use your imagination to see the color and the detail.

Rural areas and farms are one of my most popular sources for subjects for new prints. The farm road is another of my prints expressing the peace and harmony of farming. This print would make a beautiful full color landscape for a work of contemporary art. My thought is that by using my stark black and white with little detail the peace and harmony still exists but the color and detail is left to imagination of the viewer.

This new print no hunting returns to my stark black and white. While working on subjects for new prints in rural farm country this utility pole standing in a farmers field. Nothing fancy. Use what you have and make the best of it. A cardboard sign from the hardware store or farmers supply store, a utility pole and a couple of nails. I like the peaceful nature of farms and rural areas for my art. This no hunting sign beyond the obvious seemed to say to disrupt the peace of nature at work.

I have several rural and farm prints and I have a few new ones to add in the next few days.

This new print was inspired, as are may works of art, by apples but in this case not the usual shiny red apples in a nice still life but small sour crab apples in real life. On the tree. Apples was done in the natural sharp green colors. My fondness for stark black and white was overcome by these bright colors of nature.

Apples was also done in a water color style. You must take a close look at the LARGE VIEW of this print to see this painting style.

It was the tranquility of the rowboat leaning against the tree next to the pond that drew my attention. Although this scene is beautiful in color I chose instead to do the print in black and white but with a twist. If you go to see the LARGE VIEW of this print on my web site and look closely you will see that it appears to be a black and white water color.

November 5, 2007 - Cleveland, Ohio - We discovered that the DOUGLAS Art Prints® News RSS feeds simply were not functioning. As a major part of our marketing program we invested the time over the weekend to correct this problem. Our RSS feeds have been repaired and are now functioning properly.
