February 2008 Archives

February 27, 2008 - Cleveland, Ohio - The winter fence is the newest contemporary art print to be released by DOUGLAS Art Prints®.  The subject of this print is a split rail fence covered with fresh snow.  This newest print winter fence is again done in Douglas' preferred stark black and white.

The print shown as it would appear in a 22.5 in. X 16.5 in. frame.

Rural and farm subjects are a favorite of mine and when this opportunity to use this split rail fence with the deep covering of fresh snow came I seized it.  Again in my preference for not doing conventional still life's or landscapes I sought to use minimal basic lines that almost require a viewer to stop and look to see exactly what my subject is.  Although winter in Northeast Ohio pretty much lacks color anyway I still chose to use the stark black and white style eliminating what little color there was to hopefully force the viewer to use their imagination for color if they wish.

This print, as are all of our prints, is 100% art gallery archival quality. They will not yellow or fade for over 100 years if displayed properly. The prints are all produced at the time of the order and each print is hand signed and numbered by Douglas.

There are more than 200 original Douglas contemporary art prints to select from. Everything from wine to nudes to Harley Davidsons to barn doors.

February 24, 2008 - Cleveland, Ohio - Does the "HTTPS" designation and certification really provide genuine security for your credit card information?  DOUGLAS Art Prints® recent change to using the NOVA Information Systems servers and credit card processing was done against some "expert" advice but was the exact right thing to do for the security of customers credit card information.  HTTPS does not mean your credit card information is safe from hackers.

In researching our intended improvements in our credit card processing one option was for us to obtain an "HTTPS" certificate which would allow us to obtain our customers credit card information right on our own servers and then transmit that information "encrypted" to the merchant account servers for approval of the amount of the sale.  Our other option was to transfer our customers to the NOVA Information Systems secure servers where all of the credit card information would be acquired and the amount approved.  We were told by "experts" at places like Network Solutions that customers "do not like" to be transfered to another server.  This very well may be true but when it came to real security and liability we thought otherwise.  A recent story on Forbes.com, Web 3.0: What's Next After What's Next, made us realize just how right we were.
February 15, 2008 - Cleveland, Ohio - DOUGLAS Art Prints® is once again pleased to announce yet another new contemporary art print in their list of over 200 prints.  The main subject in this newest print is a bottle of Curvée William Deutz 1999 Millésimé French Champaign.  This new print deutz is also done in Douglas' favorite stark, bold black and white.

Wine has been a subject I have long planned to work on more often but haven't.  This bottle of very fine French Champaign was purchased for a party several years ago and was the one we didn't consume.  It has been in my wine refrigerator waiting for another special occasion.

I don't like to do full still life's.   I avoid them.  Working with a bottle of wine, or in this case a bottle of champaign, became more of a challenge than I thought.  My preference for using only parts of a subject and then only basic lines and still showing the label, which in this case I felt added a great deal to the image, added to the difficulty.  Then I found I wasn't pleased with simply the bottle as the subject.  Keeping additional props to a minimum I had to find a way to use but part of the champaign flute to complete the visual to this print.

Anyone who follows or collects my work or who has viewed my catalog knows my creativity is directed at trying to turn the ordinary into art but not by painting, drawing or reproducing the object itself.  Where artists like Andy Warhol produced prints of psychedelically colored cows and soup cans I prefer using a few of the basic lines and black and white.  This newest print "the pear" is a perfect example of that.

This print, as are all of our prints, is 100% art gallery archival quality. They will not yellow or fade for over 100 years if displayed properly. The prints are all produced at the time of the order and each print is hand signed and numbered by Douglas.
