When you order 1 you simply reply to the confirmation email with the print name and number of the print you'd like free (this was easier than changing my website).  You must reply with your free selection within 4 hours so we can ship the prints together.

I have been given the advice that because I'm not a well known artist that I should price my prints at $19.95 to increase sales.  Advice I didn't agree with because of the print archival quality, the fact that they are my original hand signed prints and the fact that they are NOT mass produced.  I print and sign each print individually at the time it is ordered.   

Considering the fact that displaying my prints in a pair or a group seems to be preferred I decided that offering 2 for the price of 1 could well be a tipping point for new customers.  Yes, this does bring the price per print down to the $19.95 level that I'm not fond of but it does make building a group of my prints for display more affordable and that's, well, a good thing.

We'll see and then I'll decide how long to run this sale.

After years of pure neglect I invested many, many hours this past holiday weekend giving DOUGLAS Art Prints® some much needed attention.  Beyond announcing a half dozen new prints in the past week or so I worked on hundreds of pages on the DOUGLASArtPrints.com website updating them to be more friendly.

DOUGLAS Art Prints® went from pretty much a hobby that I truly neglected to my realization that this has become an opportunity especially now that I have about 350 prints available.  A genuine examination of the DOUGLASArtPrints.com website exposed some serious misjudgments.  

For example, every button on every page said "order print".  That really forced a commitment from my guests.  Buy that print now.  I really missed with this!  I especially know that with art one might like a piece but would rather see what else there is before making a commitment.  A guest might like 2 or 3 pieces but wants to select just one and I was demanding a decision before my guests even saw the full catalog.  The supremely stupid part of this is that by clicking on "order print" it was added to a shopping cart.  A guest could have as many prints as they wished added to the shopping cart, pick the one or one's they wanted and delete ones they decide not to order.  A guest would never know that from the "order print" button now would they?  Hundreds of pages on the website now have buttons that read "Add to Cart".

In another piece of ignorance I didn't list the dimensions, the details or even the price of the actual print on any of the catalog or larger view pages.  This was all information my guests would see in the ordering process but again my guests wouldn't know that unless they clicked on "Order Print" button.  Well duh!  If I knew how many hundreds of prints I didn't sell because guests would not click on "Order Print" without even knowing what it costs I would, well you can imagine.  It wouldn't be pretty.    I know it would be more convenient to list the details and price of each print on the pages for that print.  The website design makes it a major task to change anything if needed.  What I did do was to add to every page that the prices and the details are available when you add a print to the shopping cart.  It may not be the best but at least now my guests know where the information is and they know they don't have to "Order Print" to find it.

Changing 2 words and adding one line of text.  Both keys to making DOUGLASArtPrints.com much more guest friendly.  Doing it on hundreds of pages and investing my time on virtually the entire 4th of July weekend was something I was happy to do.  OK, I wasn't happy about it but I am extremely serious now about turning DOUGLAS Art Prints® from a hobby into an opportunity.

I thought that this 4th of July when our young men and women are fighting for the freedom of others in Iraq and Afghanistan and we are fighting to protect our rights here at home that I should re-release these 2 powerful prints.  In a little over 200 years this nation has become the most successful, the most powerful and the most giving nation ever on this planet because we're free.

Reaching over 350 contemporary art original prints I decided to break the DOUGLAS Art Prints® catalog into 2.  The most logical split was breaking the nude prints into their own catalog.  Aware that many prefer not to even see nudes this change allow one to focus on the many other prints and to view my nude prints only by choice.

I have added several new prints in the last week and have several more new prints that I hope to get in the catalog before the end of this 4th of July weekend when I have to go back to focusing on my commercial photography.

I hope my visitors like this change of seeing nude prints only by choice.

This is but one of my nude works based upon the idea that a subject can be a nude art subject without the possibility of being identified.  Suddenly the "I could never..." becomes a yes, sure.  My bent for stark black and white with little detail provides my models to display their prints in their own home and enjoying their friends and family not knowing it is them.

October 13, 2009 - Cleveland, Ohio - Yesterday, October 12, I announced my intention to harshly edit my catalog of contemporary art prints as well as my wanting to combine the "Main" print catalog with the "Nude Prints" catalog.  It is done.

My plan was to have this project done for 2010, by January 1.  I wanted to have it done by November 1.  As things happen last night I had trouble falling asleep so I sat down and decide to maybe get a piece of this project done.  I couldn't stop.  Just one more phase and a couple of hours later my catalog revision was complete.

Because of editing and deletions I now have just under 200 contemporary art prints but I am pleased with my new selection.  Unlike before where I included things I really wasn't that fond of to appease a broader customer base now the work is all Douglas.  I also decided not to worry about offending people with my nude prints by having them in a separate catalog.  I am truly even more pleased with the selection now that they are all together.

The DOUGLAS Art Prints® contemporary art prints were always, for years, not much more than a hobby.  Something I devoted time to usually when I had a new print to ad and had the time away from my commercial photography.  I decided I had to devote some time to better organize and present my contemporary art and my enthusiasm got it completed long before I originally planned.

I take great pride in my contemporary prints knowing my fondness for stark, bold black and white with little detail isn't everyone's "cup of tea".  All of my prints are 100% art gallery archival quality.  I produce the prints only when ordered and I hand sign each one.

Anyone that knows my work knows I strongly prefer bold black and white.  In an effort to appeal to a wider audience I produced some color prints, often variations of my original black and white prints.  Some of them I  even kind of liked.  Two things have become obvious.  First, all of my prints sold have been my black and whites.  The other thing is, let me try and find a way to  say this, I don't truly like 99% of my color prints and now I don't much give a damn about reaching a wider audience.  I think I'll be happier being known for my black and white even if I have fewer customers.

The other thing I have done is to separate my nude prints from the rest of my work.  I did this so I wouldn't offend visitors to my web site that might prefer not to see the nudes.  It was an option.  In reviewing this policy I decided that my nudes are in fact fine art nudes.  If someone's offended what will be will be.  I want my work all in one catalog.

For years this contemporary art prints thing has been little more than a hobby.  Another creative outlet from my commercial photography business.  Now, for whatever reason, it will still be very secondary to my commercial photography but the prints will be 100% based on what I like and not to include appealing to a broader market.

I suspect these changes to occur rapidly and much before January 1.  Very possible before November 1.

This is another example of my finding a subject for one of my attempts at contemporary art while working on a commercial photography assignment.  Actually the home itself was surrounded with trees and shrubs almost obscuring it from sight even from the sidewalk but it was this dormer that caught my attention.  

One of the reasons I like to remove much of the detail and use stark black and white is because I like to leave much of what one sees in my prints to their imagination.  To me it's what you don't see that I like.  In this print of the dormer I couldn't help but wonder what the view would be like from that small roof level window.
