"This is my second print derived from my advertising photography assignment at the beautiful, exclusive, private Hawthorne Valley Country Club in suburban Cleveland.  My first print is simply titled 'hawthorne'." Douglas said.  "Neither of these prints look like a golf course.  Maybe that is because I'm not a golfer.  I loved the architecture in 'hawthorne' and the peacefulness of the stone bridge in this print are what caught my eye."

"I had the pleasure of doing advertising photos for the exclusive and private Hawthorne Valley Country Club.  I have photographed many golf courses but Hawthorn was by far the most beautiful.  I selected 2 photos to work from.  This one, 'hawthorne', for the architecture and a soon to be released print which will be titled simply 'golf course' was chosen because of the stone bridge and the peacefulness of the image," Douglas said.  "Neither look like a golf course which of course they are."

"This print captures the 'attitude' of Medina, Ohio the best.  I was there to take some advertising photos and saw this couple sitting on the bench on the town square in the afternoon just enjoying the summer day like they hadn't a care in the world.  That is Medina," Douglas said.  "Professional courtesy required my asking if I could take their photo and I did.  I asked if they would mind if I took a photo of the back of their heads.  Their laughter was the highlight of the trip."

"A near by church is about to be replaced by a commercial building and a parking garage," Douglas continued.  "One has to wonder if Medina's town square will be the same."

News today is that a church located a block away from Medina’s town square is to be developed into a 2 or 3 story office/retail and residential loft style building with a 2 level parking garage.  Will a new modern retail building within walking distance draw more people to the small quaint shops on the square or will it make it harder for these shops to compete? The shops on the square are already being replaced by offices so one must wonder if these offices too will rather be located in the new building that will replace that church just off the square in Medina?

This is another of the new prints I have from my advertising photo assignment in Medina in August.  The quaint nature of Medina and especially their public square is like stepping back in time and almost culture shock for someone who lives in a large city.  It is that rural peacefulness that I hoped to capture in this newest print.  I do know from my visits these quaint shops are fading being replaced by insurance offices and the like.  I fear this print will be a piece of the Medina town square history all too soon.

This is one of several new prints that will come from my recent trip to downtown Medina while on assignment to in fact take some advertising photos for the city of Medina.  Medina is one of those areas that is growing from rural to subdivisions many containing multi million dollar homes but at least so far they have kept the small town quaint peaceful atmosphere.  The big chains are not far away so one can only wonder if downtown Medina can draw enough people for the small shops to survive.

As we mentioned with the earlier print this historic apartment building has been beautifully kept close to the original.

"Our prints greatly benefit by people seeing the actual prints," Douglas, the artist and owner of DOUGLAS Art Prints said. "We are going to do everything possible to get them into galleries and shops for that reason."

The front door seemed on it's own as the entrance to the history this building holds.  The owners have carefully maintained this piece of history while others right across the street tore down and built high rises.  I have 3 prints from this building.  I chose the front door as the first.  In my favorite stark black and white it just seemed maybe an entrance to a castle or something.  Like the entrance to 10,000 tales of lives that have come and gone through it.

The original book discussions were for a book of Douglas' photographs and it is also set for the future but agreement was reached to immediately begin the process of publishing a book of DOUGLAS Art Prints®.

Ever so often something, shall we say off the wall, catches my eye.  Somehow the hot dog carts that are on almost every corner in larger cities seemed an interesting subject.  They are everywhere and yet, unless your hungry and short on time, they are almost invisible.  Eating a hot dog that has been sitting in hot water for hours is about as appealing as something just short of road kill but if the planets are in line and it's a hot dog or nothing somehow a glance at the menu cancels the road kill aspect.  Then you discover they are pretty good.  The guy ahead of you might be homeless and pan handled the money and the guy behind you could be worth $millions.  That's the wonder of the hot dog cart.
